Our Story
The Bradford Players first show dates back to 1926 when we staged the comic opera ‘Merrie England’ by Edward German and Basil Hood. This means that we are one of the oldest amateur operatic and dramatic societies in West Yorkshire, having celebrated our 90th year in 2016 with a masquerade ball at The Midland Hotel in the centre of town. Don’t be fooled by our longevity, though. We are still young at heart and pushing onwards to our Centenary in a few years with plans a-plenty.
Based in and around Bradford, West Yorkshire, we accept members from all around the county. Our current performance home is The Bradford Playhouse and we rehearse in venues located in West Bowling and Undercliffe. For most shows, we rehearse on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, with Sunday afternoon rehearsals being slotted in as the bigger shows get closer to stage.
We pride ourselves on our open audition policy. Auditions are usually announced well in advance via email/Facebook to our members giving everyone who wishes to participate a fair chance. Auditions are not required for those wishing to be a part of the ensemble in the summer musical and winter pantomime.
Not only this, we are keen to develop new production talent, and have nurtured a number of directors, choreographers and musical directors to realise their original visions in the past few years. We are open to expressions of interest from emerging talent and this is also promoted via email/Facebook.
